[우성훈 기자]서울 주재 파키스탄 대사관은 파키스탄 비즈니스 협회와 협력하여 2018년 8월 12일 제 71회 파키스탄 독립 기념행사를 위해 파키스탄 ‘아자디 멜라’를 조직했다. 이 행사에는 2000명 이상의 파키스탄 지역 주민들과 한국의 고위 인사들이 참석하였다.

‘아자디 멜라’는 하루 종일 파키스탄 전통 축제가 ‘헤나’와 파키스탄 포토존, 음식 노점들을 위한 노점들로 꾸며진 최초의 행사였다. ‘잘레비’와 ‘팔루다’와 같은 전통 진미들이 참가자들의 큰 기쁨을 선사했다.

이 행사의 하이라이트는 전 한국대사 이셨던 송정환 박사에 대한 시상식이었다. 그는 양국 관계 개선에 기여한 공로로 파키스탄 정부로부터 권위 있는 ‘시타라 e 파키스탄’을 받았다.

그의 환영사에서 “한국의 파키스탄 대사인 라힘 하야트 쿠레시는 양국 관계에서 긍정적인 발전”을 높이 평가했다. 그는 한국 경제에 대한 그들의 잘 알려진 공헌과 한국의 파키스탄 문화를 홍보한 파키스탄 공동체를 축하했다.

파키스탄과 한국의 형제 관계는 이 축제에 잘 반영되었다. 관객들은 파키스탄 노래에서 한국 무용수들의 감동적인 카닥 공연을 동반한 한국 문화 공연을 관람했다. 이 행사는 또한 두 명의 유명한 파키스탄 예술가인 나데엠 아바스와 나디아 하쉬미의 음악 공연도 보여주었다. 그들의 음악 공연은 참석자들 사이에서 매우 인기가 있었다.

Embassy of Pakistan in Seoul, in cooperstion with the Pakistan Business Association, organized Pakistan "Azadi Mela" on 12th August 2018 for the 71st Pakistan Independence Day Celebrations. The event was well attended by more than 2000 Pakistani community members and Korean dignitaries.

The 'Azadi Mela' was the first of its kind where a full day Pakistani traditional festival was set up with stalls for 'Henna', Pakistan photo zone and food stalls. Traditional delicacies such as 'jalebi' and 'falooda' were served to the great delight of the attendees.

Highlight of the event was the award ceremony for Dr. Song Jeong-Hwan, Ex-Ambassador of Republic of Korea to Pakistan. He has been awarded the prestigious 'Sitara e Pakistan' by the Pakistan government for his contributions to improvement in the bilateral relations between the two countries. Investiture ceremony for the award was held at the festival.

In his welcoming remarks, the Ambassador of Pakistan to South Korea, H.E. Rahim Hayat Qureshi, appreciated the positive developments in relations between the two countries. He congratulated the Pakistani community on their well recognized contributions to the Korean economy and in promoting Pakistani culture in Korea.

The Ambassador H.E. Rahim Hayat Qureshi presented the award of 'Sitara e Pakistan' to Dr. Song Jong Hwan on behalf of the President of Pakistan. In his note of thanks, Dr. Song conveyed that he is deeply obliged to the Government of Pakistan for this recognition. He further conveyed that he cherishes profoundly his tenure in Pakistan and that his services are always available to Pakistan "whether in Korea or any international forum".

Pakistan and South Korea's brotherly relations were well reflected at the festival. The audience were treated to Korean cultural performance accompanied by a stirring soulful kathak performance by Korean dancers on Pakistani songs. The event also showcased musical performances by two renowned Pakistani artists, Mr. Nadeem Abbas and Miss Nadia Hashmi. Their musical performances were very popular among the attendees.
